Essential Oils For All Seasons

Isn’t it ironic that as we move towards the holiday season the majority of us are too busy to experience any of it?
It seems like stress and stress management are fast becoming synonymous with vacations.
Luckily, there is timely news that holistic science experts have refined therapeutic plant oils to such a level that we can now support the nervous system to develop a healthy functional balance, ultimately more resistant to stress. If your attempts at calming nerves don’t match the demands of the silly season, it may be you simply need a more wholesome approach.
In reality it’s not so much about natural stress relief or natural remedies for anxiety, but more about being naturally calm.

And this is so because 100% pure essential oils use the profound medicinal value of plants most compatible with the body’s own composite nature. Which means we can use them to integrate with the very processes responsible for calming your nerves and producing relaxation.
Of course, medicinal plants have long been used to great benefit. But the revelation here is that pure essential oils can only come from an integral organic source. From seed, to growth, to harvest, to extraction… the plant substance is kept as virgin as possible and so the potential for positive assimilation is greatly increased.

If we think in terms of stress and stress management we are generally making the assumption that our nervous system is basically knocking on overload most of the time, but an exceptional plant essence formula will work to support the body’s innate function of relaxation and calm to encourage the healthy development of these responses beyond existing parameters. Blueberry Pick Your Health

One of my families favorite summer camping memories dates to when we found our tents pitched next to a small blueberry patch. Not only was the patch small so were the blueberries, but not their taste. Sumptuous may be the best term to describe the flavor of the wild blueberry pancakes we all wolfed down with glee.
The taste and fun of eating our own wild picked berries was memorable, and little did we realize then that we were giving our bodies as well as our taste buds a treat.
Blueberries, it turns out, are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. They are packed with a wide range of micro-nutrients that not only protect the body from disease, but are also believed to posses anti-aging abilities.

High Antioxidant Value

Blueberries along with plums and strawberries have the highest total anti-oxidant properties of any food. They have been called super fruits. Their anti oxidant properties help neutralize free radicals that are created by the bodies own natural processes as well as fight those absorbed by the body as toxins from the environment around us.
While most of this work is done invisibly at the molecular level within each of the billions of cells that make up your body, the net results appears to be one of increased longevity of cells and the organs they make up. The net result is a healthier body, and a less run down one. In other words, they help you look, feel and stay younger than you might otherwise.
Blueberries contain 14 mg or Vitamin C and 0.8 mg Vitamin E per 1 cup of blueberries. These vitamins are critical to your bodies war against free radicals. But blueberries also contain lesser known anti-oxidants such as anthocyanins and phenolics.

Neuron Protection

The compound anthocyanin is thought to slow down age-related loss in mental capacity of the brain in humans. People who tend to eat more blueberries are thought to have better functioning motor behavior learning and memory.
Anthocyanin is the component that gives blueberries their color and are thought to be the key factor of the blueberry’s extraordinary antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Tests with rats by Tufts University researcher, James Joseph showed significant positive effects to balance and coordination for test groups that were feed a blueberry rich diet. A similar group feed a strawberry enhanced diet also did well, however the blueberry diet did the best.
Dr. Joseph believes the benefits stem from yet another set of micro nutrients called flavonoids, a phytochemical that seems to have significant impact on cell membranes.
These studies suggest that blueberries and similar foods may be beneficial to those suffering poor balance and coordination related to aging. Read more...

Achilles Tendonosis

The Achilles tendon is the biggest tendon in our body. It is a vital tendon as it is used when we walk, jump, run or do activities that involve our feet. It can endure a huge amount of tension and stress brought about by these activities. However, it is susceptible to being inflamed. This is brought about by excessive use and deterioration and is known as tendonosis. Sportsmen commonly manifest Achilles tendonosis.

Achilles Tendonosis — Signs and Symptoms

The most ordinary sign is discomfort and pain that can be anywhere from a dull twinge to piercing prickly pains. Walking and climbing the stairs may be difficult. The pain will be more forceful as it aggravates and occurrences will be more frequent. More than a few minutes of movement will make it better but will recur after a few minutes of rest. An area of the Achilles will normally be tender and puffed-up. Read more...

Night Sweats And Hot Flashes

Welcome to the hot flash sisterhood! Most women (about 80%) experience hot flashes and night sweats to some degree, and for some of us they become bad enough to negatively impact our lives. The good news is that we can do something about them. The choices are many and there are pros and cons to everyone. In a nutshell, your options are: Natural and herbal remedies, Hormones of some form or another or Lifestyle changes

Natural and Herbal Remedies

There are numerous natural and herbal remedies for hot flashes. Some plants contain Phytoestrogens (plant-based estrogen) that mimics the activity of the estrogen our body produces naturally.
Soy, Black Cohosh, Red Clover and some others are well-known and readily available. Most supplements for the treatment of hot flashes contain a combination of these herbs (i.e. Black Cohosh, Licorice Root, Dong Quai, Wild Yam, Chaste Berry). A well researched and popular supplement is Remifemin. It contains standardized Black Cohosh and has been used in Europe since the 50s. It is now available in the US.
Maca Root is also popular for the treatment of hot flashes. It works on balancing the system in your body that regulates the hormones. A popular product in this category is MacaFem.
A downside of herbal remedies is that it may be several weeks before you can feel the benefits. Additionally, not every herb or supplement will work for every woman AND what may work during peri-menopause may not help with post-menopausal hot flashes.
Be sure to use only standardized supplements from resources you trust. Several investigations have shown that the supplement market is rife with products that either don’t contain what they claim or worse, are contaminated with substances that may be dangerous.

Hormone Therapy

Hormone Therapy is still the most effective and fastest way to treat hot flashes. We have come a long way since the media reported results from a study that showed an increase in breast cancer and heart problems with the use of Estrogen. Now we have not only better guidelines for the use of hormones, but also many more options. The guideline for any kind of hormone treatment is to treat for the shortest time in the lowest dosage that is effective.
Traditional Hormone Replacement Therapy with conjugated estrogen (sometimes together with progesterone) was the standard hormone treatment for decades. It is still widely prescribed by doctors despite the possible side effects.
Bioidentical hormones are a new, and many claim a safer, way to use hormones. They are available by prescription in many forms (patches, creams, suppositories, pills). They can be either compounded (made to your specification by a compound pharmacy) or they are available from your pharmacy in standard dosage. Read more...

Make Nightmares Go Away

Bad dreams can cause a lot of stress and anxiety which can lead to all kinds of ailments from insomnia to high blood pressure and more serious conditions like heart disease so it’s easy to see why you would want them a thing of the past. The problem with scary dreams is that they are created by your mind and who knows you and what scares you better than yourself so some of these nightmares can be downright terrifying. The good news is that you can stop the frightening visions or at least ease the intensity and frequency, in the next few paragraphs I’ll show you how to make nightmares go away.
The first thing you should know is that if the nightmares are caused by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder the you should probably go seek professional treatment but the following the suggestions below will not do any harm and may offer relief. One very effective way to combat the bad dreams is a technique called Image Rehearsal Therapy (IRT), it is really quite easy to learn and can be mastered within hours of starting.* Get a notebook and jot down the events of a recent bad dream, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the most recent if that is still too fresh in your mind.

Now think of ways to change to the nightmare, just go with whatever feels right, write down the new dream if you want or commit it to memory.
Spend a few minutes each day visualizing the new version of the dream, paint a mental picture, it’s best to do this shortly before going to bed but whenever you have some quiet time will work.
Do the same thing for each of your nightmares, if you struggle to picture your version of the dream keep at it, it will get easier and soon enough the dreams will fade and lose intensity.

Many times nightmares are caused by simple things such as the foods you eat right before you go to sleep, the reason for this is that your metabolism gets going and thus the brain is more active. The solution in this case is quite obvious, stop eating a few hours before you go to bed. Falling asleep while you’re watching a horror movie or reading a scary book just before bedtime can often cause you to have unpleasant dreams. Read or watch something soothing or pleasant before bedtime, it will help you relax plus you’ll just sleep better anyway.
Certain medications such as antidepressants or narcotics can be the cause of sleep disturbances and nightmares and getting your doc to change the medicines you take can help. Make sure you are not suffering from a condition such as sleep apnea or restless leg syndrome as both of these afflictions can quite obviously contribute to frightening dream images.
If there is no medical reason for your bad dreams the best thing you can do to make nightmares go away is to live clean. Get lots of exercise, a healthy body helps create a healthy mind, eat nutritious and healthful foods, keep your conscience clear and do good deeds, be polite and decent to people. Meditate on the positive, strive to improve your life and yourself and you’ll most likely never have to worry about how to make nightmares go away.

Adding The Health Benefits Of Apples To Your Life

applesAre we beginning to ignore apples? Supermarkets are reporting that they are selling less and less apples. Could that mean that we are not appreciating the health benefits of apples? This once very popular fruit seems to have been replaced by other more exotic and expensive fruits. Most fruits are good for us, but the problem with exotic fruits, is that they have been transported over long distances. Transporting fruit and vegetables over long distances will reduce their nutritional value. The apple farm down the road would probably deliver better nutritional value, and, also, better value for money.

Should we ignore apples? Absolutely not, and did you know that an apple contains more vitamin C than an orange? On top of that, they are also richer in fiber, and one particular soluble fiber, pectin, is very important. Pectin can help us to lower our cholesterol, boost our immune system and sweep away toxins in the body. In other words, it is a natural broom that we ignore at our own peril. Oranges on the other hand are acidic, and can even trigger arthritis and gout. Perhaps you really should consider adding an apple a day to your diet.
